Title: Amanda's Fate

Summary: The staff of CG fights to keep Amanda a live, they each
recall
the first time they each met Amanda even a new staff Member.

Challenge: # 75 - A hit and run driver with a purpose runs Amanda
down. Steve struggles to keep the boys in line while he searches
for Amanda's stalker. Mark and Jesse keep vigil over Amanda, who
in her coma dreams she's a MASH nurse in Korea who is courted by
the young, handsome Mark Sloan.
Now here is our story. One sunny day Dr. Amanda Bently who is
county Medical Examier for Los Angeles drove her car into the
parking Garage because the parking lot was to full today. The 3
block walk didn't bother Amanda, but someone didn't like it at
all. She looked back, the driver sat in his car plotting his next
move, he would wait her to make her next move.
Now she walked to the nurse's station to find Mark Sloan who is
head of internal medicine for the hospital. She found him talking
to Steve Sloan about dinner plans. Amanda sat down and started
looking through her e-mail that she printed out so she could file
it later. Another e-mail read "your next." Once again
no name was left.
"Hi Mark did any more bodies arrive last night ?" She
asked hoping she didn't need to work late as she had for 2 days
in a row. we had 3 bodies come in.
Mark saw Amanda looking pale. As she walked into the pathlab to
begin autopsies on the 3 dead bodies. She examined the first
body. She found many cuts and kinfe wounds to the chest and right
arm. A wave of dizzness came over her . Greg a new member of CGH
went to look for the death date of a patient, when he saw Amanda
fall. Mark was paged.
Mark & Greg called for a gurney two orderlys carefully put
Amanda on the bed. Next she was moved to a room where Greg stayed
with her. Amanda was coming around now. Mark had her chart, began
examing her. "How are you feeling?"
"Very tired and the autopsies need to be done. She
said." Mark took her blood, the test was normal. An x-ray
was done which was normal. Mark was bothered by this. "I
want you to rest & let me see you next week. he said."
She hugged him. Now. she needed to call CJ & Dion that she
would be late and there was money for supper.
Amanda & Greg finished the first autopsy. Greg took charge of
closing the path lab. but he checked the e-mail & found more
troubling e-mail. saying bye-bye.
All the e-mails were printed out and put in a folder. Greg went
to call Steve. "See you tomorrow. Amanda said" Greg
watched her leave hoping he would see her again. Greg locked up
and went home. Amanda was walking to her car to go home and kiss
her kids goodnight. A car ran over Dr. Amanda Bently and
continued down the road.
Part 2
Amanda was in a coma when we last left our story. She felt
herself slip away, taking her back to the Korean War in 1945.
Amanda was busy treating a soldier who had a bullet in his leg,
"Tell me what your favorite movie is." She asked trying
to keep him thinking of something happy. Amanda removed the
bullet from his leg with Mark Sloan to help. Mark was reading a
letter a serviceman sent to him saying thank you.
The young man said "Gone With Wind" He let Amanda's
voice comfort him. She saw the question in his eyes, she covered
up the wound. Left to check on the other men.
Everybody was watching "Frontier Dad" where they went
behind the scenes and having pizza. Bob the Executive Producer
had asked Mark & Amanda to be Medical Advisors on the set,
Production was to start in March with the show to air in May.
Mark had a blood test done on her which showed that she needed
more iron in her diet. Mark had a late shift tonight, it
would be longer. Steve was busy tracking a man that was wanted
for a series of hit and run accidents in other states. The latest
one was 6 hours ago. Someone found Amanda. She was rushed to
Community General. Madison Wesley who is Dean of students at the
hospital was looking over applicants new to the class. Madison
was talking to someone about adding new classes. When someone
came through the ER. " What have you got?" DR Wesley
wondered.
the Paramedic said "Female 35-40 years old, BP 160/75 respiration 16 and shallow, internal bleeding."
"Get her to Exam one STAT!!! " Madison yelled. Greg came running to trauma one and saw what happened and paged Mark "Dr. Sloan to ER" Mark drove right away. Jesse came with him. They quickly dressed. Madison looked at the chart and again at the patient. The name on the chart said Dr. Amanda Bentley.
Madison felt her knees go weak. How would she tell Mark,
Jesse, & Steve? They would need to know soon. Madison sat by
herself and wondered about CJ & Dion.
Mark looked at the wounds of the patient and carefully checked
her eyes and head then he ordered an x-ray to see if the brain
was swelling, it was and fast. Mark was getting Amanda ready.
Steve arrived to see who the
latest victim was. Jesse was handling the x-ray. Madison had CJ
and Dion at her house.
Madison still had to tell Mark that he was working on Amanda. She
watched CJ and Dion play outside.
1945
Amanda was reading a letter from a wife at home to her
husband. Bob Hope was getting ready for his broadcast on Armed
Forces Radio. Mark and Amanda danced together. Mark fell in love
with her and the sparkle in her eye. He got down on one knee and
asked her to marry him. Amanda said yes.
" Blood pressure study" a nurse said. Mark was getting
blurry eyed as he looked at his watch it read 1am it said. Jesse
brought himself and Mark some coffee. Mark looked at the chart he
couldn't read the name.
Madison saw the kids coming in from outside. CJ was getting ready
for bed as was Dion. " I have to tell you something about
your mom she was in a car accident and is at the hospital,
Dr.Sloan is doing everything he can to save her save her."
Madison said. CJ thought back to when his dad died. Dion however
took the news hard. "She can't be I just got her!
She is nice to me !" Dion said. Madison held them in her
arms till their tears stopped rocking them gently.
Steve came and asked the nurse for the name of the victim. The
nurse couldn't tell hem. Greg ,Amanda's friend, went to check on
Mark & Jesse they were really ready for a break. "I'll
watch over her now." he said.
Mark and Jesse were in the lounge Steve was there as well as was
Madison.
She was crying and looking outside the window at a rainbow. Mark
came in for coffee again. He sat down the newly filled cup. Mark
went to her put his hands on her shoulders and she looked into
his deep blue eyes.
"Mark the patient- she took a deep breath before
continuing,you and Jesse are operating on is Amanda" she
said. Mark wasn't sure he heard right. Steve and Jesse walked in.
Steve looked at his father as did Jesse.
Everyone said nothing. Mark held her tight as she cried,
"The boys already know." Madison said tears rolled down
her face. She told everybody good-bye. She sat by the boys as
they slept rubbed their heads of soft hair. Mark and Jesse went
to see how Amanda was.
She was still in the coma and asking if Mark was married. Greg
spoke with Mark about the questions she was asking. Mark heard
the question. Amanda asked it again "Where should we
marry?" Mark realized where her mind was. Amanda is back in
the Korean War. "So you think the attacker was a veteran of
the war?" Steve said. "I can't be sure yet but we need
to check that out." Mark continued checking on her.
Greg was busy getting an autopsy file put away, "I have a
cut on my arm and I need someone to treat it". Max said.
Greg was looking at E-mail for Amanda, He looked at the bottom.
Greg saw the name Max. He teated the cut.
Then he walked back to Amanda's Room. "Steve I think I
have found the attacker." Greg said. Steve quickly followed
him to Max who was waiting for something.
Steve had finished reading all the E-mail sent to Amanda. He was
really mad now. "Take him to the station and read him his
rights." Steve told everybody he would see them later.
Now Bob Hope was done singing. Mark and Amanda kissed again and enjoyed the moment.
Steve was questioning the suspect. Mark and Jesse were looking
at Amanda. Suddenly she said "CJ! Dion!"
Amanda was ready to go and find them. Mark and Greg stopped her
"Madison has them for now, and is with them." Mark said
to calm her. Mark had her x-rayed again things were getting
better for Amanda, but she had a long way to go. Steve finished
questioning Max. He left the station to check on his Dad and
Amanda.
She was now walking somewhat. Amanda was getting tired. Greg
walked her back to her room where Steve was. He waited until Mark
was with him. Mark came in the room. " Amanda still needs
time to recover, but she will get better. Steve told what
happened with the attacker and that a trial would take place
soon.
The trial was starting Amanda did get to tell what happened. The
testimony from her was hard to remember because of the accident.
Mark, Jesse, Steve, and Greg all talked of Amanda almost dying.
Max never will get out of Jail the Judge said.
Later everybody went to see Amanda. Who was walking around the
hospital and tried to put away files. Mark saw Amanda working
hard but was looking tired. Mark was taking her home. Madison saw
them trying to stay awake. Steve took them home where they fell
asleep fast.
